Following presentations from the 13 teams put forward, the panel of judges evaluated all of the projects and chose the 10 of greatest interest for the areas of application specified by the Call, in the context of environmental sustainability in the energy sector: Green technologies, e-mobility, energy storage, sensors and the internet of things, smart solutions for electrical-asset maintenance, solutions/technologies serving the electricity grid, energy harvesting, tools and sensors for analysis and measurement of pollution, and monitoring and analysis of vegetation growth.
Requisites specified in the call for applications included a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) between 2 and 5 and at least one team member below the age of 35. At the end of the incubation period, in May, the panel of judges will award the most outstanding project with a voucher for € 50,000 in acceleration and go-to-market services.
Catia Bastioli, Terna Chairwoman – “This third edition of the Next Energy Call for Ideas confirms the value and special nature of the format adopted and incrementally improved over these years, recognising projects that can offer innovative and sustainable solutions supporting the current energy transition. We have increased the areas of interest for this edition of the Call, in the knowledge that the actions of a company like Terna, focused on technological innovation, must be aimed at the protection and support of national resources.”
Carlo Mango, CEO of Cariplo Factory – “The success in terms of participation and the quality of projects demonstrate how Next Energy acts as a benchmark initiative in Italy for upcoming talent, innovators and start-ups in the energy sector. With the support of our partner incubators, located across Italy, the ten projects selected begin a path of development that will be accompanied not only by Terna, the Cariplo Foundation and Cariplo Factory, but by all the start-ups belonging to the far-reaching Next-Energy community.”
Giuseppe Guzzetti, Cariplo Foundation Chairman – “These young people involved in the Next Energy programme truly represent positive energy for Italy. We are proud to see the programme grow with each edition, demonstrating that our intuition, born from collaboration between Terna and Cariplo Factory, was well founded. These are high-quality projects because we have high-quality young talent. And the final result will certainly again see creation of new, concrete employment opportunities for young people that bring added value to our businesses and our economic system.”
