For years, Terna – Rete Elettrica Nazionale SpA has been an industrial and service entity for the country. The changes within the energy sector over the last years, including the process for the deregulation of the electricity market, the privatization of its grid, the emergence of a variety of market competitors in Italy and abroad, once again have placed Terna among the leading players within the national energy context. The unification between ownership and management of the National Transmission Grid, which became operative as of November 1, 2005, and the appointment of the new Board of Directors with Luigi Roth and Flavio Cattaneo, respectively as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, marked the beginning of the new direction to be pursued. The 2008 Shareholders' Meeting confirmed Luigi Roth and Flavio Cattaneo as Terna's top executives for the new three-year period.
