Import/Export 2013
Italian transmission grid is interconnected to the rest of UCTE Power System by means of 22 interconnection lines, 4 with France, 12 with Switzerland, 1 with Austria, 2 with Slovenia, 2 DC connections, one cable with Greece, one cable connecting Sardinia to the mainland through Corsica (SACOI) and one additional AC cable between Sardinia and Corsica.
Through the interconnection lines along the Northern border - 7 lines at 380 kV and 9 lines at 220 kV - Italy imports approximately 14% of its requirement every year, a percentage that places Italy as the leading importer of electricity from other countries in Europe.
In view of the significant electricity transit from other countries, the development and improvement of the interconnection grid is particularly important for our country due to commercial and safety reasons and because it encourages the establishment of the European electricity market.
For this purpose, the projects to be implemented include the building of new interconnection lines with Balcani area (DC link Italy – Montenegro), the improvement of interconnections with France, the interconnection lines Treviso area-Lienz with Austria and Udine-Okroglo with Slovenia and the DC link with Tunisia.
Referring to the realization of Merchant lines, it has been authorized the first line AC at 132 kV between Italian substation of Tarvisio and the future substation 220/132 kV of Arnolstein (AT).
