A gigantic steel pliers literally demolished the first pylon of the Bussolengo Chievo power line in the province of Verona. An applause of “satisfaction” came from the children of the Primary School Beni Monteresor who left class to watch the enormous mechanical arm initiate removal operations of the “Bussolengo – Chievo” line that will be completed within June 2010.
In addition to Terna’s Chairman Luigi Roth, the event was also attended by the Mayor of Bussolengo Alviano Mazzi, the Councillor for public works policies and sports of the Veneto Region, Massimo Giorgetti and the Councillor for territorial planning Samuele Campedelli. "This upgrading measure – stated Roth - is a success story of relations with the local authorities and with the territory and represents a constant element in Terna’s activities. The more a project is strategic, the more it becomes necessary to promote a proper balance between energy needs and protecting the surrounding environment.”

The removal operation of the old “Bussolengo-Chievo” line falls within the broader project for upgrading the high voltage electricity grid in the Bussolengo and Verona area which includes a series of measures aimed at strengthening and improving the safety of the territory’s electricity system. This will lead to a saving of 1.3 million euros a year for the electricity system and a significant environmental impact reduction of transmission systems. Investments totalled 41 million euros, in line with the Development Plan.
There will also be considerable environmental advantages. 27 km of new lines, 24 of which in buried cables, will indeed replace approximately 45 Km of obsolete lines, with a ratio between the old and new that will be nearly halved. Moreover, nearly 160 pylons will be pulled down.
