• +5.4% in July: the highest increase of electricity consumption in the year
  
• First seven months: +2.5%; peak demand in July: +8.8%

In July 2010 the electricity demand in Italy, equal to 31.5 billion kWh, increased by +5.4% compared to July 2009.

Without the effects of a temperature that was higher by half degree C, and of a working day less (22 vs 23) compared to July 2009, the variation in electricity demand in July 2010 is +5.3%.
In the first seven months of 2010, the electricity demand increased by +2.5% compared to the same period in 2009; based on the same number of days the result would be the same.
At the territorial level, the variation trend for July 2010 is generally positive yet different according to areas: +7.7% in the North, +5.2% in Central Italy and +1.3% in the South.
The short term profile for July 2010 showed a seasonally adjusted positive variation equal to +3.6% compared to the previous month.

In July 2010, the electricity demand was met for 85.8% with the national production and for the remaining part (14.2%) with the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries. More in details, the net national production (27.3 billion kWh) increased by +4.9% compared to July 2009. Thermal production rose (+11,1%), as did wind power (+6.3%) and photovoltaic solar production (+10.1%). Hydroelectric production decreased (-14.6%) as well as geothermal (-3.5%).
The peak demand in July 2010 was equal to 56,425 megawatt; this figure was reached on Friday the 16th at 12:00 noon and was higher by +8.8% compared to the peak demand in the same month of the previous year.
