Electricity transmission is a general interest service: Terna plays an essential role in the electricity system for ensuring each day and every second the continuity of a service that interests the entire community- companies, citizens, public authorities.
In order to do this, it must also plan and modernize the HV electricity grid updating it to the present needs also as required by the national economic system: the growth of grid development investments represents a primary indicator of the economic returns that Terna generates for all, not only for its shareholders.
The transmission service from which the larger part of Terna’s revenues derives is carried out as a government concession and is the object of timely regulations: of primary importance for the company is Terna’s relationship with the authorities (Parliament, Ministry of Economy and Ministry for Economic Development, Authority for Electricity and Gas) that regulate and control the transmission service.
In carrying out its corporate activities that also include initiatives in the non-regulated field, the principal relations are with its employees, suppliers and with the electricity sector operators and their associations. Expenses for purchasing supplies and services activate a chain of positive economic impacts that take on practical visibility in the opening of building sites for developing the electricity infrastructure.
Building new lines does not involve the physical movement of people, but determines a strong visual impact which the communities involved are particularly sensitive to: in order to better respect all the interests involved, the building of new lines is preceded and accompanied by intensive dialogue with the territorial authorities (Regional Authorities, local Administrations, Park Associations).
Additionally, Terna believes it is part of its responsibility to restore to society part of the value created through supporting initiatives for the communities in the cultural, social and environmental fields.
