Our commitment

Linee alta tensioneSustainability means working every day with Responsibility, facing the consequences of one’s actions.

In Terna’s case, this means fully respecting its stakeholders and integrating into its policies and management systems a close and careful consideration of the environmental and corporate impact of corporate activities.

It means establishing and maintaining relations based on trust with stakeholders and seeking opportunities for creating and sharing value, to the advantage of the company, of its shareholders and of other stakeholders.

The objective it to establish and maintain  relations based on trust: excellent relations with human resources, suppliers, grid users and customers in general, regulatory and public authorities and attention to the effects on the territory are essential conditions for growing and creating value for shareholders.

The term sustainability is based on the definition of sustainable development: «development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs». (World Commission on Environment and Development, “Our Common Future”, 1987). Sustainability does not only have one environmental dimension, but also concerns the social context and the well-being of its employees.

The sense of Responsibility is part of the cultural heritage of the people working at Terna:  it is based on an awareness and pride in providing a general interest service for the community.

The values that express Terna’s conduct and its commitments undertaken regarding the different categories of stakeholders are described in the Code of Ethics defined in 2006.

Terna recognizes and is committed to respecting the principles of the UN Global Compact.  These 10 principles  refer to human rights, labor, the environment and fighting corruption. They are universal since based on:

  • Universal declaration of human rights;
  • Declaration of the International Labor Organization on the fundamental labor rights and principles;

  • Rio declaration on the environment and development;

  • United Nations convention against corruption.

If you have any comments or observations on Terna’s work and on the way in which it is reported in this Website and in the Sustainability Report you can send us an email at CSR@terna.it. We will be happy to read your opinions and clarify our point of view and our programs.

At Terna, sustainability regards all corporate policies, management systems and initiatives affecting social and environmental consequences of carrying out our  business.
