Our People

It is in our human resources where our distinctive technical skills lie, often rare or unique in the electricity sector; these enable Terna to carry out its activities effectively, with high levels of professionalism and operational efficiency, and to face the changes required by adjustments to new situations and by the implementation of company strategies.

Attention to renewing these skills is a fundamental element of Terna’s managerial approach to its human resources. An equally important element is its care for safety at work, heightened by the fact that several operating activities involve particular risks.

In Italy, Terna provides the following benefits for all its employees that have completed their probation period, that work part-time or that have starter contracts:

  • additional medical assistance (voluntary assent);
  • additional social benefits (voluntary assent);
  • insurance for injuries beyond the professional risks;
  • recreational associations;
  • maternity benefits more favourable than those provided by the law;
  • favourable loans for purchasing one’s home and for serious family needs;
  • canteen and meal vouchers.

Coverage for disability is regulated by law and is extended to all employees. Terna provides improved conditions for specific categories.

For all its employees in Brazil, Terna provides additional medical assistance, including dental coverage and meal vouchers. In 2007, life insurance was introduced.

Number of employees of the Terna Group

In the last few years, Terna’s personnel has increased both in Italy and in Brazil. The growth of employees within the group in the 2005-2007 period was mainly due to the acquisition of companies in Italy by Terna S.p.A. In Brazil, the growth reflected the consolidation of Terna Participaçoes’ activity, the inclusion of staff previously in the services sector and, mainly in 2007, the acquisition of companies that own power lines including their personnel. In Italy in particular, this growth reflects the acquisition of other companies with their personnel.

Personnel in Italy according to education level

To confirm the importance of technical skills and of the high level of professionalism of Terna's staff, the data on employees according to education level, show that in Italy the number of personnel with degrees and diplomas increased over the three years from 2005 to 2007.
