Dialogue with the communities
On 5 July, we will be meeting the citizens of the municipalities of Borgo Ticino, Cameri, Varallo Pombia, Pombia, Marano Ticino, Oleggio and Bellinzago Novarese to outline the works which will aim to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the local electricity grid. This meeting with citizens represents a new chapter in the process for the involvement of the local communities, which Terna has pursued for some time now and which will complement each phase of the project until its completion.
The project follows on from the memorandum of understanding of 28 May 2009 for the construction of “a new 380 kV power line between the Trino Vercellese (VC) and Lacchiarella (MI) electrical substations: line located in the Piedmont Region”.
The works involve the laying of the 132 kV Mercallo–Cameri line – via the municipalities of Varallo Pombia, Pombia, Marano Ticino, Oleggio, Bellinzago Novarese - and the subsequent demolition of around 21.3 kilometres of the line being buried and around 2.8 kilometres of the 220 kV Magenta–Pallanzeno line.
The demolition works involve Ticino Nature Park where we will disassemble 5 kilometres of overhead lines and 28 pylons. The route of the new cable does not interfere with protected areas.
The Valle Ticino Park extends across a portion of the Novara province, South of Lago Maggiore, with an area of 6,561 hectares which includes a series of municipalities in the Piedmont Region, close to the Ticino river: Bellinzago Novarese, Cameri, Castelletto Sopra Ticino, Cerano, Galliate, Marano Ticino, Oleggio, Pombia, Romentino, Trecate, Varallo Pombia. Forests take up about 60% of the area and constitute the dominant part of this valley, with numerous crops present in the South, in the flatter part of the park.
