Giuseppina di Foggia

Our wealth of engineering expertise has made it possible to carry out projects of strategic value with a low environmental impact. The onset of the Games spurred Terna to accelerate the completion times of the projects involved in building an adequate and secure electricity grid.

Terna has installed around 60 km of new underground cables in total and removed 3 km of overhead lines in Lombardy, with interventions affecting the metropolitan area of Milan and the Province of Sondrio.

In the capital of the Lombardy region, Terna has completed power lines for the connection of the “San Cristoforo” and “Rogoredo” primary cabins.

In Valtellina, Terna has constructed and commissioned the “Livigno-Premadio” power line. This consists of two underground cable power lines, each around 20 km in length, between the primary cabin in Livigno and Terna’s new electrical substation located in Premadio, in the municipality of Valdidentro. The latter, built using compact gas-insulated technology, has a minimal footprint, in harmony with the surrounding mountain landscape. The project is immensely important for the area in question, as it has enabled connection to the national electricity grid for areas where high voltage previously could not reach.

In Trentino-Alto Adige, Terna has installed a total of around 40 kilometres of underground cable in the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

In the Autonomous Province of Trento, an underground cable connection of approximately 17 km in length is operative, connecting the Campitello Primary Cabin with the national high-voltage electricity grid through the use of a compact rapid-installation station. This solution has been adopted at Terna’s new electrical substation in Moena, which was designed using compact gas-insulated technology and architectural solutions in keeping with the surrounding landscape of Val di Fassa.

In the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Terna constructed and commissioned the underground cable power line between Laion and Corvara, with a length of around 23 km, in September 2025. The route largely follows the ordinary road network.

In Veneto, Terna has built the new Arabba primary cabin and the underground line between Cortina and Auronzo di Cadore.

In Veneto, works have mainly concerned the Belluno area, where Terna has built a connection between the new “Arabba” primary cabin, owned by the local distributor, and the national electricity grid.

Moreover, this area has a 24 km underground cable already in operation, between Cortina and Auronzo di Cadore.
