Since February 2024, in the area where the future converter substation will be built in
Selargius (Cagliari), Terna has been uprooting and replanting 230 olive
trees, with the help of expert agronomists, as authorised by the
Environment Department of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. Before transferring the olive
trees, Terna pruned the branches to stimulate their subsequent vegetative recovery
and growth. The olive trees were then replanted while maintaining their
orientation with respect to the cardinal points, to grant the same sun exposure as before to
each single plant. Irrigation, fertilisation, maintenance and care of the olive
trees and replanting area will be carried out accordingly. Moreover,
Terna has drafted a two-year plant management plan to provide for the olive trees
monitoring, control and nutrition, including emergency irrigation and periodic evaluations.
Similarly, Terna is removing and replanting about 1,700 olive trees in the
Termini Imerese municipality (Palermo), in the areas where the Tyrrhenian Link project East
and West sections will be built. According to PAs' indications, the olive trees have been
replanted in an area owned by the municipality of Termini Imerese, in the nearby
municipality of Trabia, in the province of Palermo. The project details have been defined in
collaboration with Terna and the local bodies involved. After replanting the olive trees,
relief irrigation and assessment by expert agronomists are being carried
out.
