The first phase of the
installation of the submarine cable for the eastern branch
of the Tyrrhenian Link started in Fiumetorto, in the Municipality of Termini Imerese (PA). This is a record-breaking installation: for the first time, an HVDC cable will be laid at a depth of 2,150 meters, setting new market standards.

Terna signed the agreement concerning the
last tranche of the EUR 1.9 billion loan
for the Tyrrhenian Link with the European Investment Bank (EIB).

September
The Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security
authorised the construction of the West section
(Sicily-Sardinia).

Terna signed the agreements concerning the
second and third tranches of the overall EUR 1.9 billion loan
for the Tyrrhenian Link with the European Investment Bank (EIB).
2022
November
Terna signed a
loan agreement with the European Investment Bank
(EIB) for a total amount of EUR 500 million to support the construction and commissioning of the East section (Sicily-Campania).
October
The Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition
authorised the construction of the East section
(Campania-Sicily) and
formally started the authorisation process for the West section
(Sicily-Sardinia).
May
Terna submitted the
authorization request for the West section
(Sicily-Sardinia) to the italian Ministry of Ecological Transition.
April
Conclusion of the Public Consultation on the West section
, with presentation of the location options for interventions in Sicily and Sardinia. Terna organised “Terna Incontra” events with the Municipality of Termini Imerese (Palermo) and the Municipalities of Maracalagonis, Quartucciu, Quartu Sant'Elena, Selargius, Settimo San Pietro and Sinnai (Cagliari).

The italian Ministry of Ecological Transition signed the
formal opening of the authorisation process for the East section
(Campania-Sicily).
Terna signed the
framework agreements with Prysmian and Nexans
for the supply of the Tyrrhenian Link submarine cables.

The second phase of the Public Consultation kicked off, with new “Terna Incontra” events for residents of
Termini Imerese
(Palermo) and
Quartu Sant'Elena, Sinnai, Quartucciu and Maracalagonis, Selargius and Settimo San Pietro
(Cagliari), to illustrate the technical aspects and location options for the West section (Sicily-Sardinia).

(Salerno), illustrating the project solutions emerged, also following the dialogue and active listening process with the territory.
